Synopsis

Genome sequencing technologies have transformed molecular genetics by enabling comprehensive analysis of genetic information with unprecedented accuracy and efficiency. From the pioneering Sanger sequencing method to advanced next-generation and third-generation sequencing platforms, technological innovations have significantly increased sequencing speed, throughput, and accessibility while reducing costs. These developments have expanded our understanding of genome structure, genetic variation, evolution, and gene function across diverse organisms. Modern sequencing technologies play a vital role in medical research, personalized medicine, cancer genomics, rare disease diagnosis, agricultural improvement, biodiversity conservation, and environmental monitoring. The integration of sequencing data with bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and computational genomics has enhanced the ability to interpret complex genomic information and identify meaningful biological patterns. Despite remarkable progress, challenges related to data management, sequencing accuracy, Ethics, privacy protection, and equitable access remain important concerns. Ongoing advancements in long-read sequencing, single-molecule analysis, nanopore technologies, and multi-omics integration continue to improve genomic research capabilities. Large-scale initiatives such as the Human Genome Project, the 1000 Genomes Project, and various agricultural genomics programs have demonstrated the transformative impact of genome sequencing on science and society. Future developments are expected to further accelerate discoveries in genomics, support precision medicine, strengthen food security, and contribute to sustainable environmental management.
